These terms were drafted against what the code
actually does
They are written
plainly rather than defensively, and they have not
yet been reviewed by a solicitor. Have one read them before relying on them
commercially.
1 · What Froocan is
Froocan is a search engine that indexes African web pages, and Goblin Videos is its video section. We index and link to material published by other
people. We do not host, own, endorse or vouch for anything we link to, and a
result is not a recommendation.
2 · Using it
You may search, follow links, and share them. You may not attempt to
overwhelm the service, scrape it in bulk, break its rate limits, probe it for
vulnerabilities, or use it to send unsolicited messages. Automated querying
through the interface intended for people is not permitted; ask us if you need
data access.
3 · Accounts
An account is a Bitcoin public key you have proved control of by signing a
challenge. There is no password and no email, so there is nothing for us to
reset. If you lose access to the wallet, you lose access to the
account — we cannot restore it for you, because we hold nothing that
would let us.
4 · What you publish
You keep ownership of what you post. By publishing it you allow us to store
and display it on Froocan so that it works as intended. You are responsible
for it being lawful and yours to publish, and you can delete it — or your
entire account — at any time from your profile.
5 · What is not allowed
Anything unlawful; impersonating another person; harassment; content
sexualising children; malware; and material you have no right to publish. We
may remove content or suspend an account that breaches this, and we will say
why where we lawfully can.
6 · Other people's sites
Every result leads somewhere we do not control. Their terms and privacy
practices are theirs, not ours. If a site behaves badly, tell us and we will
consider removing it from the index.
7 · If you are a site owner
Our crawler obeys robots.txt and identifies itself honestly as FroocanBot.
To keep us out entirely, disallow FroocanBot in robots.txt and we will stop on
the next pass. To have a page removed from the index, or added, get in touch —
we do not require you to be a customer to ask.
8 · Video
Goblin Videos plays video through each platform's own embedded player. We do
not copy, re-host or re-encode anyone's video, and the creator keeps their view
count. Playback is also governed by that platform's terms.
9 · Availability
Froocan is provided as it is, with no promise that it will be available,
complete, current, or that any particular page will be indexed. It is a young
index and it says so on its own About page.
10 · Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from using
Froocan or from anything on a site we link to. Nothing here limits liability
that cannot lawfully be limited — including for death or personal injury
caused by negligence, or for fraud.
11 · Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top changes when the words change,
not when the site is deployed. Continuing to use Froocan after a change means
you accept it.
12 · Law
These terms are governed by the law of the country or region where you
live, and its courts have jurisdiction. Froocan is used across Africa and
its diaspora, and it would be wrong to make someone in Lagos, Nairobi or
Casablanca argue a dispute under a law that is not their own. Whatever rights
consumer law gives you where you are, you keep in full — nothing in these
terms reduces them.
